Also/Too (도)
도
도 means 'also' or 'too' and replaces the particles 은/는, 이/가, or 을/를.
Pattern
Noun + 도
Explanation
The particle 도 means 'also,' 'too,' or 'as well.' It is used to add something to what has already been stated. An important feature of 도 is that it replaces other particles like 은/는, 이/가, and 을/를 — you do not stack them together.
For example, if someone says '저는 학생이에요' (I am a student), you can respond '저도 학생이에요' (I am also a student). Here, 도 replaces 는. Similarly, '커피를 좋아해요. 차도 좋아해요.' (I like coffee. I also like tea.) — 도 replaces 를.
However, 도 does not replace location particles like 에 or 에서. Instead, it attaches after them: '학교에도 가요' (I go to school, too). This is a common area of confusion for beginners.
