Formal Suggestion (-(으)ㅂ시다)
-(으)ㅂ시다
Formal propositive ending used for suggestions in formal/professional settings.
Pattern
Verb stem + -(으)ㅂ시다
Explanation
-(으)ㅂ시다 is the formal polite propositive ending, meaning 'let's' in formal contexts. It's used in business meetings, formal speeches, and public announcements: 회의를 시작합시다 (Let's begin the meeting). It's the 합니다체 (formal polite) equivalent of -아/어요 level's -(으)ㄹ까요 or -자.
Use -ㅂ시다 after stems ending in a vowel: 가다 → 갑시다 (let's go). Use -읍시다 after stems ending in a consonant: 먹다 → 먹읍시다 (let's eat). For ㄹ stems, drop ㄹ and add -ㅂ시다: 살다 → 삽시다.
This form sounds professional and authoritative. It's not used in casual conversation among friends, where -자 or -(으)ㄹ까요 is more appropriate.
